Q. What is the basic Consideration for the use of Solar PV Cell?

Ans: PV cell converts solar light into electrical energy during day time. We use the energy from PV cell to charge a battery and use the same at night time. So the basic consideration for designing Solar PV products is to use the PV cell in such a manner so that the energy consumed should be regained by charging the battery through PV cell during day time.

Q. What is the problem of conventional Solar Lantern?

Ans: There are two basic problems one is the duration and the other is the charging. The manufacturer of Solar Lantern give the duration of 2-3 hours of use per day considering PV cell charging capacity and lamp consumption since the CFL lamp is drawing a high current. In normal cases the user uses it for more hours causing a deep discharge of the battery and since the charger (Solar panel) is not able to make the battery fully charged in very next day the battery remain partially charged and used in the same way. After a few days of use the battery is not able to run even for 2 hours and slowly in 2-3 months the battery became unusable. Moreover CFL lamp also is getting damaged (black spot) while it is used with low battery conditions so the life of CFL lamp is reduced. To overcome the problem with conventional system the manufacturer needs to increase the battery and the Panel which will increase the cost considerably.

Q. How is the product from Suraj Solarr solve the problem and/ or better than conventional Solar Lantern?

Ans: Suraj Solarr is using non conventional bulb using LED. One of the advantage of LED is that it is drawing a very low current compared to a CFL. The overall power requirement for LED bulb is much less than CFL. As a result the duration of the light is increased (more than  6-7 hours) and the possibilities of deep discharge is eliminated. Since the average use of light any household is less than 6 hours a day the battery is also getting fully charged everyday and the total backup time (more than two days) is much higher than conventional CFL, there is absolutely no possibilities of using the light with partial charging. The other reason is that the LED is used direct DC voltage from the battery while CFL need high voltage to glow which is converted from the DC voltage of the battery. There is always a conversion loss which occurs in case of CFL.

Q. What is LED?

Ans: The full form of LED is Light Emitting Diode. As the name implies it is a solid state device (Diode) which emits light when a current passes through it. Earlier days intensity of LED light was not so good to be used as bulb but with the technological advancement high intensity LED  has come out to be used as not only for bulb but also for overhead projector. It is also predicted that the future lighting will be all LED based.

Q. How is the light of LED? is it safe?

Ans: The LED light can be of different colour and intensity including super bright white LED which is used by Suraj Solarr for their products. Super bright white LED lights are of sufficient intensity for both reading and illumination purpose and completely UV free for safe use.

Q. What is the cost and life of LED bulb compared to conventional CFL?

Ans: At present cost of LED bulb is higher than CFL but the life of LED bulb is much higher. The average life of LED bulb is 100000 hours which is almost equal to 23 years (considering 12 hour daily use). The LED bulb virtually does not require any replacement where as CFL needs to be replaced in a year or so. It is because of the LED the product of  Suraj Solarr is known to be absolutely zero maintenance product.
